A long-running 20th-century speculation was that in the next phase of evolution, humans would gain telepathic powers. Odd John, written in 1935 by influential sci-fi author Olaf Stapledon, echoes this progression. At a young age, John easily masters language and complex mathematics and gains unusual control over his autonomic nervous system. As he gets older, John uses telepathy to contact others like himself forming a group of insular super-humans who regard regular people as little more than animals. The 2025 graphic novel is shown above.
