Diving Free: The Aqua-Lung

Invented in 1943, the Aqua-Lung allowed divers to swim underwater for extended periods of time. No longer tethered to a boat above or weighed down by heavy boots, diving now signified freedom--floating in liquid space in neutral buoyancy.
