The Eames' work on molded plywood splints, stretchers and aircraft parts became the basis of their furniture introduced at MOMA's New Furniture Designed by Charles Eames (1946). These early designs were slightly different from the production models we're familiar with today featuring boxier backrests and different metal leg designs. Noteworthy: the now-forgotten Tilt-Back Side Chair shown above "designed to safeguard that deep masculine urge to balance precariously on the two rear legs of a chair."
